Newcastle’s manager Eddie Howe is not going to be comfortable, even after being in third place in the Premier League table. He wants to improve his squad in January but accepts that Financial Fair Play rules may limit him.
Eddie Howe has always been an admirer of James Maddison from Leicester City, and he definitely wants him in his already-performing squad.
The new owners, however, are said to be less interested in big signings and more interested in the development of homegrown talent.
Newcastle United is now training in Saudi Arabia, where sports director Dan Ashworth and co-owners Amanda Staveley, Mehrdad Ghodoussi, and Jamie Reuben are there.
After a spending spree of over 200 million pounds in the summer, the January transfer will most likely be a one-in-one-out scenario.
Eddie Howe has stated that he wants to strengthen his squad so that he can keep up with the top four competition as he hopes to take his team back into the champions league after a long time.
The manager acknowledged that the team is performing well, just as he wants it to, but he insisted that there is always room for improvement.
A player like Alex Isak, who was bought for 60 million pounds, was a top acquisition the team made and has proven to be a good signing for Newcastle. Botman was also another great addition to the team, and he did not come cheap either.
Eddie Howe admitted that he did not know whether the club had the funds to acquire the new players that he wanted. “You have to work within the guidelines of the club,” he said.
Newcastle is currently interested in signing a right-back who they consider an important role to fill. The names on their shortlist are West Ham’s Harrison Ashby and Leeds United’s Cody Drameh.
The manager is however pleased with some of his players and plans to keep them. This makes him less pressured to make new signings in those roles.
Howe is not looking to change much of the squad as this is the squad that has managed to take his team to the third position after winning five games in a row.
