Diego Simeone has become the true reason why Joao Felix could finally leave Atletico Madrid. This was a direct statement from Atletico Madrid chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin.
Joao Felix was a hot property when he joined Atletico Madrid for a club-record fee of 126 million pounds. The 23-year-old has failed to live up to his expectations, leading to his being dropped by the manager.
The youngster failed to score in The Champions League, which led to the Atletico Madrid team crashing out of the competition. Joao Felix has only played 12 times this season, scoring only three goals.
“Joao Felix is the biggest bet this club has taken in its history,” admitted Atletico CEO Gil Marin to TVE. The CEO admitted that he still acknowledges the player as a top player.
The CEO thinks that it will be better for the club to find a perfect solution for the manager, player, and club. It is important to mostly look at what motivates the player right now.
Gil Marin does want Joao Felix to stay at Atletico Madrid but he does think that the player may have ulterior motives.
Joao Felix hinted at his displeasure while playing under Diego Simeone after the 6-1 world cup win over Switzerland.
“Yes, I feel better while playing for Portugal”. “The way we play here is totally different [from Atletico Madrid], and the joy is also completely different,” he said.
To some extent, Simeone has admitted to not being the best fit as a manager for the player. Joao has looked off playing with his manager’s playing style.
